Seiko 5717-8990 from Asian Games1964 (Serviced)

For sale is a Seiko 5717-8990.

The Seiko 45899 powered by the calibre 5719 was launched along with the 6217 World Time to commemorate the 1964 Tokyo Olympics (with the Olympics Torch stamped on the case back).

The 5717-8990 was launched right after the 45899 with the inclusion of a date feature and an upgrade to the bezel. Stainless steel bezel was used instead of the brittle bakelite bezel found on the 45899.

Plenty of variant was produced under the reference 5717-8990 with the Asian Games variant being the rarer variant.

The example offered for sale here features a cold metallic sunburst dial with contrasting black dial ring indicating the minutes.

The watch is in excellent condition with common hairline scratches seen on both the case and bezel. Light signs of aging can be seen on the edge of the dial. The watch was serviced in April 2021 and is fitted with a brand new crystal.

The watch comes on a matching Seiko bracelet.
